MUSIC & READING
|
Many people have asked about the music I play during sessions. They enjoy the interesting blends of musical styles heard in the background of all my sessions. Often they ask for the name of the CD so they can purchase this unique blending of soothing sounds. Similar to a DJ in playing for rave house music, I take cuts of tracks from different CD's and tape them together to produce an even flow of varied music. Have you ever purchased a CD because of one song you liked the best? The rest of the CD may have only one or two more songs you really like. So when you are listening to that CD, you just skip over the tracks you don't like, right? My taped music is planned out that way to avoid the music not suited to my client's enjoyment, working with only the music perfect for that one session. The music I play during our sessions is very carefully chosen and mixed from a number of different sources. Over the years I have learned how to mix and match different CD's and musical styles to produce what seems like a continuous flow of music. Usually music that induces altered states of consciousness from deep sleep-like trances to just very relaxing sounds to assist with the healing process. Very observant clients remark that the way I worked my massage touch seemed to be orchestrated to the music they were listening to. This is the type of meditation tapes I created for my sessions. Each tape is triggered for a certain healing response. When accompanied with my bodywork (massage) modalities the auditory and sensory perceptions produce intense relaxation. The taped mixes also work very well on their own. I would love to make some for you. However, due to copyright issues, I am not able to sell tapes or CDs of these mixes. I am happy to provide an alternative, with a list for each of my mixes and complete instructions so that you can recreate a Wyzways mediation/massage session yourself. The list that follows is intended to help you quickly find these wonderful aids to a better, more relaxed and spiritual life. Each link leads directly to its own Amazon.com page, where you may read a full description with picture and price, and purchase with confidence if you would like. A small portion of your purchase is donated back to me with my thanks for continuing to support my healing work. Over the next few weeks, I will be constructing my own online store where you may conveniently pay for services with your credit card, buy gift certificates and even purchase products as we grow and expand. Please read on . . . ~ ~ ~ How to create your own meditation music At present I am creating my music using a Tape - to - Tape audio cassette system. The same method applies to burning a CD or using your iPod to select the music. Whatever the playback medium is, the recipe for creating a blended music meditation tape remains the same. Simply follow the recipe and copy each track one after the other to a new audio tape. These suggestions are meant to get you started in creating your own musical mediation tapes. Or perhaps you are just curious what kinds of music I enjoy. Each underlined suggestion will link to Amazon where you will be able to hear selected tracks before making your purchases.
Sound Massage Using only one CD you can play around with the selections and see which musical combinations produce the most healing music for you.
Track #1 Mating Call
Beginnings Using two CD's, you begin to experiment with blending different sounds and artists together. These two CD's are a good place to begin with.
The Golden Portal
Uplifting This mixed tape's selections was one of the most complex as it involves many different tracks, some repeated. This mix uses a movie soundtrack. Often Soundtrack selections have a short track time, so it is easy to mix and match them for a total sound effect. The following recipe will demonstrate this effect.
Whalerider ~ ~ ~ The most often heard request, after asking for the name of the CD, is what type or category describes the music. Remember that relaxing for some people may be a steady drum beat, which is totally different for another who enjoys Opera for relaxation. I often have that problem of describing the music I enjoy as well when I go in search of music as some musicians are listed playing a certain type of music which may not be the intent I seek. For example, the majority of the music I enjoy playing might be called "New Age", "World", or "Trance". These titles only help when I am searching store catalogs. However, those categories rarely define what I need to share my music selections with you. Here are some suggestions to classify my musical choices: Ethereal
Beat
Soundtrack
Vocals
Mystical
Collection
Soothing Of course, some CD's have more than one style or category to describe them. Check out my musical recommendations for more details about the music. ~ ~ ~
Music Recommendations
The Ambient ExpanseRoach, O'Hearn, Obmana, Bacchus, Unis Ethereal; Instrumental only; no singing; electronic sounding 5 Tracks; Total Time: 68:02 In my opinion: Each of these five 'New Age' musicians defined the use of ambience in trance-type music. This CD is a collaborative collection with each track from a different author. However, I have found that most of the ambient music I have listened to sounds very much like all the rest. On this CD, only track #4 The Space in-between by Obmana was unique from the other tracks.
Breath of the Heart Nawang Khechog, Peter KaterBeat, Soothing; Instrumental Tibetan flute and piano, some TIbetan Choir type of chants 7 Tracks; Total Time: 37:28 In my opinion: For years I have enjoyed Peter Kater's piano music and this CD blends such great sounds with a Tibetan flautist, Nawang Khechog.
el-Hadra Feet in the Soil James AsherDrum Beat; Instrumental # Tracks; Total Time: XXXX In my opinion: If you are seeking more energetic music then this is the CD for you. The beat is consistent and will get you to want to dance along with the music.
The Golden Portal Harmony Michael BenghiatDrum Beat; Instrumental 4 Tracks; Total Time: 59:29 In my opinion: CD states this music is for "relaxation, health and wellness". I bought this tape as it said it was the soundtrack to the video "Esalen Massage", which I thoroughly enjoyed as it blends flutes, harp and percussion. Healing Waters Dean EvensonSoothing, Beat; Instrumental with background nature sounds 12 Tracks; Total Time: 61:08 In my opinion: One of the 'Sound Healing Series' CD's of Dean Evenson, (While, I think I might have every one of his CD's, the best one for my work has been Sound Massage). On this CD, Evenson uses the theme of water as a helaing force of life. This CD also has a subliminal 'Earth Resonance Frequency'. This is a natural earth sound which promotes relaxation in achieving an alpha state. This music is recommended for massage, meditation, breath work even though I might make a note that the CD is a bit more uplifting with a quickened pace, which might be too energetic for mediation. I enjoyed Track #2 Spirit of Water as it made me feel as though I was floating on water. A Rainbow Path Kay
GardnerVocals; Drum Beat; Full orchestra instrumental, vocal droning and angelic choir voices 8 Tracks; Total Time: 45:90 In my opinion: An old classic favorite of mine as each track is aurally focused on each of the Chakras, (from Root to the Transpersonal 8th Chakra). Each note, instrument and theme is consistent with the appropriate Chakra. For example: Basson, French Horn, Cello and bass instruments for Track #2 Dorian Hills/Belly Chakra. Celtic Harp, flute, angelic choir and vocal droning for Track #7 Soaring/Crown Chakra. For that reason, this CD is excellent for any Chakra Healing, resonating, communing work. Sacred Spaces Jon O'BerghCollection; different styles with every track, some singing, chanting; selections separated with headers such as: Contemplation, Prayer, Epiphany, and Passage. 12 Tracks; Total Time: 53:05 In my opinion: Generally speaking most of the selections could be used on any mixed tape. However, I would probably not use most of the selections; a few of them are outstanding and can be blended with my other selections very easily...well, as one of the first few cuts on any of my taped music. Sound Massage Dean EvensonSoothing; Mystical, Beat; Instrumental with some droning/chanting in the background 11 Tracks; Total Time: 65:00 In my opinion: One of the 'Sound Healing Series' CD's of Dean Evenson, and the best of the series! I highly recommend this CD as every track makes me swell with a healing life force. When this music kicks in during one of my healing sessions, I feel as though all of life's wonderful beings are with me in the process. The cover of the CD explains that this each of the selections were created specifically for massage therapy. This CD also has a subliminal 'Earth Resonance Frequency'. This is a natural earth sound which promotes relaxation in achieving an alpha state. For that mystical quality (and recommended for meditation as well) would be Track #7 Deep in the Heart, Track #9 Sky Touching Earth, and Track # 11 Timeless Spirit, (with a haunting piano solo) even though Track #1 Mating Call has an energetic beat, this track makes me remember the Old Ones, which in turn evokes their energy into my healing work. Tao of Healing Dean EvensonSoothing, Mystical; Instrumental, primarily a silver flute 10 Tracks; Total Time: 60:00 In my opinion: One of the 'Sound Healing Series' CD's of Dean Evenson, (While, I think I might have every one of his CD's, the best one for my work has been Sound Massage). On this CD, Evenson blends East with West. The music is recommended for Feng Shui, Tai Chi, Acupuncture, Qigong, Massage and Meditation. This CD also has a subliminal 'Earth Resonance Frequency'. This is a natural earth sound which promotes relaxation in achieving an alpha state. For a mystical quality I would select Track #1 Gentle Season, Track #3 Pond Reflecting the Stars, Track #6 Morning Mist. A wonderfully healing sound is found on Track #5 Healing Breeze as it has just a single flute. Whalerider Lisa GerrardSoundtrack, Mystical, Beat; Instrumental with movie background dialogue & chanting, some vocal intoning, some drums and beat 15 Tracks; Total Time: 41:05 In my opinion: I loved the movie and so I supposed the soundtrack would be awesome as well. It was written by Lisa Gerard of the Dead can Dance, (some of their work I use in my Conscious Breath Work sessions). Then I remembered my varied past experience with soundtracks of movies I enjoyed but when I got the CD, I found that none of the music was suitable for my sessions. One example was the first Harry Potter movie. Another example the Fifth Element, I only found one track suitable - Track # 14 Lucia Di Lammermoor and it's new age rock spin on its traditional operatic theme Track #15 The Diva Dance. However for these two tracks I was willing to get the entire CD as they are wonderfully inspired. If you saw the movie, Track #14 is with the tall blue alien opera singer. Most everyone who has seen the movie remembers her song. I found that this CD Soundtrack is very inspirational, beginning with the opening monologue that was in the movie, (Track #1 Paikea Legend), is just a girl's spoken word, but for the most part the music is too 'rockish' to really recommend the entire CD as a relaxation music. However, some tracks are recommended, such as Track #5 Ancestors, Track #7 Pai calls the Whales (with her haunting chant), Track # 9 Disappointed and Track #10 They came to die. Wonderfully inspired music, excellent to begin a session. I recommend this CD to be played with Garden of the Gods or Dance of Light, as the music blends well together.
